Welcome to the Sustainable Business Project
The Sustainable Business Project is a doctoral research project at the University of Surrey investigating approaches into organisational sustainability, the net zero transition for business and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Phase 1 of this study is complete and Phase 2 is currently underway.
We are currently inviting companies to participate in Phase 2 and receive a free sustainability performance assessment.
This research will analyse approaches to:
- economic, environmental and social sustainability (Triple Bottom Line)
- decarbonisation and progress with net zero goals
- materials, energy and waste management strategies
- social and community/CSR impacts
The project measures the overall sustainability of the organisation using a new sustainability model (7E Model) developed for this project covering seven key areas of business.
Each participating company will receive their summary sustainability results and an overall score for benchmarking performance.
Data is collected via an online survey. All data provided is securely and confidentially held. Organisations already taking part have found the results insightful for sustainability planning. Participants are anonymised for results analysis and data is securely and confidentially held.
This research contributes to a PhD project Managing Organisational Sustainability and CSR which demonstrates the use of a new model for measuring sustainability performance holistically. The 7E model can be used for sustainability meaurement, management and to support ESG reporting and strategy.
